Fury (2014) is a taut and forcible World War II drama starring Brad Pitt as U.S Army Staff Sergeant Don 'Wardaddy' Collier, commander of an M4 Sherman tank nicknamed "Fury". Set in April 1945 near the culmination of wartime activities, the storyline finds Collier leading a haggard crew through the German interior while facing ferocious opposition from Hitler's Schutzstaffel resistance forces.
Comprised of Boyd "Bible" Swan (Shia LaBeouf), Grady "Coon-Ass" Travis (Jon Bernthal) and Trini "Gordo" Garcia (Michael Peña), Collier's crew receives early reinforcement in the form of Norman Ellison (Logan Lerman)—a guileless young typist who entirely lacks combat experience. As the storyline progresses, Ellison must overcome his timidity in order to earn the trust of his newfound comrades in the face of grave danger from Nazi forces desperate to avert an Allied invasion.
Written and directed by American filmmaker David Ayer (Harsh Times, End of Watch), Fury is a terse and enthralling depiction of historical warfare, inspired by the service of veterans from his own extended family. Bearing his hard-hitting style of urban storytelling upon the European theater of World War II, Ayer has crafted a dynamic tale of conviction, camaraderie and the sheer brutality of armed combat. Visceral and thoroughly compelling, it's one of the finer depictions of The Second World War produced in the modern era.
