Between the Mountain and the Sky (2024) is an extraordinarily moving documentary that follows humanitarian Maggie Doyne’s life over a period of two decades in Surkhet, Nepal. An American who first moved there during her pre-university gap year to work with orphans, Maggie ultimately chose to stay and devote herself to caring for a growing number of orphaned children in the region.
The documentary follows Maggie as she makes the life-changing decision to use her $5,000 in savings to buy land in Surkhet after seeing the grueling conditions faced by child laborers in Nepal. The film utilizes home movies and archival footage to show the development of the BlinkNow Foundation, which has helped build and sustain the Kopila Valley School along with a children’s home, women’s center, health clinic, Big Sisters’ Home and a new campus in Surkhet. Maggie’s story is one of immense grace and harrowing loss, buoyed by her effervescent kindness and her steadfast dedication to the dozens of young lives she has helped raise as her own.
Written and produced by American filmmaker Jeremy Power Regimbal and based on Maggie’s memoir "Between the Mountain and the Sky: A Mother’s Story of Love, Loss, Healing and Hope", it's an incredibly emotional and life-affirming viewing experience. Maggie and Jeremy’s journey is a profound and inspiring depiction of human kindness, beset by heartbreaking tragedy. With the support of producers Mark and Jay Duplass, it's available to watch online (March 4–11, 2026) on the film’s website: www.betweenthemountainandthesky.com.
